As part of a year-long commemoration, a weekly feature titled "This Week in CONCACAF History" will take a brief look back at some of the confederation's most historic games and happenings.

Through "This Week in CONCACAF History" you can revisit the region's most memorable people, events and crowning achievements.

Week of February 6-12

February 6, 1990: After a 1-1 first-leg draw a month earlier in Havana, Cuba, Mexico's Pumas UNAM captured its third CONCACAF Champions' Cup by defeating visiting Pinar del Rio, 3-1, in the return match of the 1989 Final at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City … Jorge Campos, Manuel Negrete and Juan Carlos Vera all scored for Pumas, while Raimundo Garcia had the only tally for Pinar del Rio in the series championship (played in 1990).

February 7, 1965: Trinidad & Tobago won its first CONCACAF World Cup qualifying match after defeating Surinam, 4-1, at the Queen's Park Oval in Port of Spain … Andre Aleong had two goals while Alvin Corneal and Jeff Gellineau each added another for the Soca Warriors, who would then lose their next three Group 2 matches and were eliminated from a berth to the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England.

February 10, 1957: At the Estadio Mateo Flores in Guatemala City, Jorge Monge scored three goals as Costa Rica registered a 6-2 victory over host Guatemala in its first-ever CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying game (1958 FIFA World Cup Sweden). Rúben Jiménez, Alvaro Murillo and Marvin Rodriguez added one apiece for the visitors … The Ticos won a second-straight match seven days later (February 17) at San José's Estadio Nacional as they once again defeated Guatemala, 3-1. The match ended in the 66th minute after the Chapines walked off the field in protest of a disallowed goal and a player ejection (Carlos Quiñones) by the Colombian referee Ovedio Orrego.

February 11, 1987: LD Alajuelense became the first Costa Rican side to win the CONCACAF Champions' Cup after defeating SV Transvaal of Surinam, 2-1, in the second-leg of 1986 final at Alajuela's Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto … LD Alajuelense won the first-leg, 4-1, five days earlier at the same venue.

February 12, 2004: A penalty kick goal by Diego Martinez in 101st minute gave host Mexico a 1-0 extra-time victory over Costa Rica in the finals of the 2004 CONCACAF Men's Under-23 Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament at the Estadio Jalisco in Guadalajara … Costa Rica and Mexico had already qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, after defeating Honduras (2-0) and USA (4-0), respectively, in the semifinals two days earlier, also at the Estadio Jalisco.
