Ted Howard installed as Acting General Secretary
Ted Howard, CONCACAF deputy general secretary since 1998, has been installed as the confederation's acting general sectary, the organization announced Monday. The 66-year-old American replaces Chuck Blazer, whose resignation after 21 years in the post became effective Sunday.
Howard was executive director of the old North American Soccer League from 1971 until it folded in 1984, director of marketing for Ohlmeyer Communications for three years and director and group manager of NBA Marketing from 1988 until he joined CONCACAF.
In addition to his duties at CONCACAF, Howard serves on the FIFA referees committee as well as the FIFA stadium and security committee.
U.S. and Canadian Women plan 2012, Mexico to train in Los Angeles
Following the CONCACAF Women's Olympic qualifying tournament in Vancouver from January 19 to 29, the U.S. Women's National Team announced that it will face New Zealand on February 11 at FC Dallas Stadium in Frisco, Texas.
New Zealand earned its first point in a Women's World Cup last summer when it was coached by current Canadian Women's team coach John Herdman.
The U.S. will also play in the Algarve Cup in Portugal from February 29 to March 7, 2012. The U.S. was drawn into Group B where it will face Denmark, Norway and 2011 World Cup champion Japan.
Canada will play in the Cyprus Cup beginning February 28. The three-time champion will play Italy, Scotland and the Netherlands.
Mexico, after training for much of December in the nation's capital, will travel to Los Angeles on January 11 for two games against the Fullerton-based Viking Athletic Club.

Metapan second in tournament; Morelia beats Mexican rival
While the domestic leagues in El Salvador, Mexico and the United States take a break, a number of the eight CONCACAF quarterfinalists are busy playing exhibition matches in preparation for their upcoming domestic seasons and the Champions League.

Isidro Metapan dropped a 4-1 decision to Mexico's Jaguares on Friday in the final of the first-ever Copa Mesoamericana, a four-team tournament in Tapachula, Chiapas. Alfredo Pacheco scored the lone goal for the Champions League quarterfinalist, while Jackson Martinez struck for three in a winning effort.
The current Salvadoran champion advanced to the championship match thanks to a 3-0 semifinal win on Wednesday over Xelaju of Guatemala. Mark Lester Blanco scored two goals in the opening 15 minutes and Pacheco added another just past the hour mark.
Two-time Champions League participant Comunicaciones defeated Xelaju 2-1 in the competition's third-place match. Metapan will host Pumas in the first-leg of the Champions League quarterfinal series on Mar. 8.
Champions League quarterfinalist Morelia continued its preparations for the upcoming Mexican Clausura, rallying for a 2-1 win over Club America in a friendly on Thursday at the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California, USA.
Christian Bermudez put the Mexico City-side ahead in the 33rd minute, but Rafael Marquez Lugo -- who has two Champions League goals -- evened the score just seven minutes later.
In the 74th minute, a deflected attempt from Diego Mejia found the back of the net for the game-winner.
Morelia, which will meet fellow Mexican-side Monterrey in the Champions League quarterfinals, kicks-off the Clausura on Friday, when it hosts Tijuana at the Estadio Morelos.
Caribbean qualifiers to be determined this week
The last three qualifiers for the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-20 Championship will be determined in the final round of Caribbean qualifying, which gets underway on Friday.
The Dominican Republic will host the Cayman Islands, Jamaica and Haiti in Group E January 6-10, while Guyana, Puerto Rico and Trinidad & Tobago will travel to Havana January 7-11 to play in Group F.

The group winners and the best second-place team among the two groups will qualify for the eight-team finals in Panama from March 1-11.
Men's Olympic Qualifying Semifinal and Final Tickets to Go On Sale
Series tickets for the elimination-round matches of the 2012 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying tournament go on sale next week, starting on Wednesday, Jan. 11.
The semifinal matches determine the two entrants from CONCACAF to the 2012 Olympic Games in London and will be played Saturday, March 31, at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas. The championship game takes place at the same venue on Monday, April 2.
Series tickets for the Nashville and Los Angeles venues are currently on sale. A series ticket consists of a ticket for each event scheduled at a single venue. Fans can order series tickets for all three venues online at ussoccer.com, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, at local Ticketmaster ticket centers in the venue cities, and at the respective stadium ticket offices during their local business hours.
Individual tickets for each event (all doubleheaders except for the final) go on sale at a later date, pending availability.
