Seattle, Pumas look to be the first to qualify for quarterfinals

Pumas and the Seattle Sounders could become the first teams to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals when they play their fifth round games in Tuesday in the Group Stage.

Seattle will travel to Guatemala to face Comunicaciones in Group D while Pumas will be in Toronto in Group C.

Also in Group D on Tuesday, second-place Monterrey will try for a second in a row when it hosts last-place Herediano of Costa Rica.

Pumas and Dallas share the lead atop Group C with seven points, one ahead of Toronto. A win by Pumas will not only secure itself a place in the knockout round, but put FC Dallas in a situation where a victory over Tauro in Panama on Wednesday will do the same for the Hoops.

Santos leads Group B by three points over Metapan and could clinch with a win Wednesday against Real Espana in Honduras. After a 6-0 to Santos last week, Metapan will try and rebound, against the Colorado Rapids at home.

The third-place LA Galaxy will host Group A leader Morelia on Wednesday, where a draw will be enough to put the Mexican side into the Championship Round. After a 1-0 victory over the Galaxy, second-place Alajuelense will host last-place Motagua on Thursday.

Honduras qualifies to Men's Olympic finals

Roger Rojas scored twice in the second half to lead Honduras to a 5-0 victory over Nicaragua on Sunday and send it to the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying finals.

Rojas' second goal in the 76th was just enough to give "Los Catrachos" the Central American Group B title edge over Costa Rica on goal difference. The two teams drew 2-2 on Friday, but Costa Rica beat Nicaragua 4-0 on Wednesday, leaving it one-goal shy of Honduras.

Honduras joins fellow Central American side El Salvador and automatic North American qualifiers Canada, Mexico and the United States in next year's finals in the United States.

Costa Rica will have another chance to qualify, facing Group 1 runner-up Panama in a playoff October 30 and November 6 for a third Central American berth.

CONCACAF will qualify two teams for the London Olympics July 27-August 12, 2012.

Central American qualifying begins Friday

Costa Rica will face Nicaragua on Friday in Guatemala City to open qualifying for Central America's two berths in the CONCACAF Olympic women's finals. Host Guatemala will play Honduras in the second game of a doubleheader.

El Salvador will begin its bid on Sunday with its first game, playing Costa Rica before Guatemala takes on Nicaragua.

The qualifying will continue through October 8, with the top two finishers joining automatic qualifiers Canada, Mexico and the United States and already guaranteed Caribbean sides Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
