Real Salt Lake reaches CCL final

Real Salt Lake became the first team from Major League Soccer to reach the Champions League final tonight after defeating Saprissa on 3-2 aggregate. The team from Utah lost 2-1 in San Jose, Costa Rica but advanced due to its 2-0 win at home in the first leg.

The other finalist will be decided tomorrow when Cruz Azul hosts Monterrey in Mexico City. On March 16, Monterrey defeated Cruz Azul 2-1 to head to Mexico City with an advantage on Wednesday.

The finals will begin April 20 in Mexico, before concluding April 27 in either Salt Lake or San Jose.

PR Islanders open CFU club defense April 23

The Puerto Rico Islanders will begin defense of their Caribbean Club Champions Cup title on April 23 at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium in Bayamon, facing Suriname's Walking Boyz in the first leg of their second-round encounter.

On Sunday, in Linden, Guyana, Milerock will open the second round, hosting Trinidad's TT Pro League champion Defence Force.

Fellow Guyana side and Super League champ Alpha United will play River Plate FC of Puerto Rico on Friday, April 15, at Georgetown's GCC Bourda Park.

A doubleheader on Friday, April 22 at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad, will have the first leg between Trinidad's Caledonia AIA and Tempete of Haiti, with the nightcap featuring the second leg of Defence Force vs. Milerock.

Walking Boyz will host its home leg against the Puerto Rico Islanders on May 7 in Paramaribo, and no date has been set for the second leg of the Tempete-Caledonia series in St. Marc.

The four winners will advance to the semifinals and finals May 25 and May 29 in Trinidad, with three teams qualifying for next season's CONCACAF Champions League.






Costa Rica and Mexico qualify to the FIFA U-20 World Cup

Costa Rica defeated Canada 6-1 on Tuesday to reach the U-20 World Cup that will be played in Colombia. Joel Campbell scored three goals for the Ticos.

Mexico also defeated Canada 3-0 to advance to the World Cup on Tuesday. The Mexicans received goals from Kristian Alvarez, Jorge Mora and Diego De Buen.

Honduras will play Panama to on Wednesday while the United States meeting host Guatemala in the nightcap of the doubleheader.

The four semifinalists, who will play Friday, will advance to the U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

The final will be played on Sunday.






Pfister to coach Trinidad & Tobago

Otto Pfister, the German-born coach who took Togo to the 2006 World Cup, was introduced as Trinidad & Tobago's new manager on Tuesday, set to take over the side later this month in preparation for World Cup qualifying.

The 73-year-old Pfister, who led Cameroon and Ghana to the African Cup final and won the 1991 Under-17 World with Ghana, replaces former Soca Warriors hero Russell Latapy, who was fired after Trinidad failed to qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in December.

Pfister is the fourth foreign-born coach since 2005 to lead Trinidad, following Dutchmen Leo Beenhakker and Wim Rijsbergen and Colombian Francisco Maturana.
