Mexico delays extra assistant ref test
The Mexican Football Federation has postponed a test program to use two additional assistant referees in its domestic league matches until next fall's Apertura championship, adopting a suggestion by CONCACAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer.
The experiment - where the extra assistants are to be positioned on the goal line -- was to start with the Clausura tournament in January, the second half of the 2010-2011 Mexican league split-season.
"Having analyzed the proposal, the refereeing commission reports that it has accepted the recommendations of our confederation of FIFA and will initiate the fifth and sixth referee project during the 2011-2012 season, starting from the month of July of next year," a letter from the FMF to Blazer said.
