 Eight teams head to Champions League quarterfinals
Olimpia became the last team to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals, setting the Championship Round field with a 3-0 victory in the next-to-last Group Stage match.
The Wednesday result gave the Honduran side the Group D title along with Real Salt Lake in Group A, Santos in Group B and Monterrey in Group C. Group winners will host the second leg of their quarterfinal series.
Real Salt Lake defeated Cruz Azul 3-1 at home on Tuesday to win its group and finish the Mexican side in second. Earlier Tuesday, Santos defeated Municipal 6-1 at home to claim its group, a result that also assured Columbus second place and a second consecutive trip to the quarterfinals. The Crew finished group play with a 4-1 victory over Joe Public in Trinidad on Thursday.
Monterrey, already assured of winning Group C, defeated Marathon 1-0 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on Wednesday to finish with the best record in the Group Stage (5-1-0, 16 points), while Saprissa won 2-1 at the Seattle Sounders a day earlier to finish six points back in second.
Olimpia's victory gave it 13 points, and vaulted it past Toluca, which assured itself of second place earlier Wednesday with a 5-0 win over FAS in Mexico.
The Championship Round draw will take place on November 1.

Los Angeles Galaxy to return to Champions League
The Los Angeles Galaxy will return to the CONCACAF Champions League for a second consecutive year next season, claiming the second berth from the United States and first guaranteed slot in the Group Stage with a 2-1 victory over FC Dallas Sunday night.
The victory earned Los Angeles the Supporters' Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular-season record in Major League Soccer. The Galaxy entered Sunday's final game of the regular season tied with Real Salt Lake for the title and needing a draw or a victory to secure the spot.
The Galaxy joins the Seattle Sounders FC, which was the first team to clinch a berth in next year's Championship when it won the U.S. Open Cup on October 5 for the second consecutive year. The MLS Cup champion and runner-up and will be awarded the remaining two U.S. berths, with the cup winner heading to the Group Stage along with the Galaxy.

 Guadeloupe, Grenada advance to second round of Digicel Caribbean Cup
Guadeloupe and Grenada advanced to the final round of the Digicel Caribbean Cup, both winning Sunday to set up a Wednesday clash for the Group E title.
Gregory Gendrey scored his second his second goal in as many games - this time 47 seconds after the opening kickoff - and Guadeloupe survived playing a man down for the 56 minutes to hold off Puerto Rico 3-2.
Later, Delroy Facey scored twice in the first 32 minutes and paced Grenada to a 2-0 victory over St. Kitts and Nevis to send the Spice Boys to the final round.

 Women's World Cup Qualifying to start October 28
The CONCACAF Women's World Cup Qualifying tournament will kick off Thursday when Costa Rica takes on Guatemala, and the defending champion United States meets Haiti in Cancun's Estadio Quintana Roo.
A day later, host Mexico will face Guyana following Trindiad vs. Canada at Cancun's Estadio Beto Avila.
The tournament will decide two guaranteed berths in the 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany, given to the champion and runner-up. The third-place team will face the fifth-place finisher from European qualifying for another World Cup berth.

 De la Torre named new Mexico coach
Toluca coach Jose Manuel de la Torre was designated as the new manager of the Mexican national team Monday night, the seventh man to take the reins in the last four years.
De la Torre will continue as manager of Toluca through the remainder of the Mexican league Apertura season, after having led the club to two titles, before taking full command of El Tri.
Mexican finish third at Peace Queen Cup
Mexico lost its opener but won its second match to finish third at the 2010 Peace Queen Cup in South Korea.
Las Aztecas fell 3-1 to Australia on October 17 but came back to beat Taiwan1-0 on Thursday.

 Guatemala finishes 11th, Costa Rica 12th in the Grand Prix de Futsal
Guatemala defeated Costa Rica 3-1 to claim 11th place at the Grand Prix de Futsal in Brazil.
Guatemala and Costa Rica were winless in group play, sending them to the consolation bracket where Guatemala defeated Romania 3-2, and Costa Rica topped the Netherlands 4-2.
The Chapines subsequently lost to Russia 7-4 and Costa Rica fell to Libya 5-2, setting up their head-to-head Saturday showdown.
