 Eight teams advance to Group Stage
The field for 2010-11 Champions League Group Stage was set last week with the conclusion of the Preliminary Round, as the Puerto Rico Islanders claimed the biggest upset with a 5-3 aggregate win over the Major League Soccer leaders Los Angeles Galaxy.
Mexican teams continued their strong Champions League form, with two-time runner-up Cruz Azul routing San Francisco 6-0 following a 3-2 first-leg win in Panama to advance to the league phase, while Santos won 5-0 at home over San Jabloteh to complete a 6-0 aggregate win over the Trinidadian side.
While the Galaxy lost, the two other MLS sides, the Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC advanced thanks to strong performances away from home. Seattle rallied to draw 1-1 against Metapan and win 2-1 on aggregate, while Toronto tied 2-2 against Motagua in Honduras following a 1-0 win at BMO Field.
Lastly, two-time quarterfinalist Marathon returned to the Group Stage thanks to a 4-3 aggregate win over Panama's Tauro, while Trindidad's Joe Public defeated Brujas of Costa Rica 4-2 at home following a 2-2 draw last week.

The eight Preliminary Round survivors and eight automatic Group Stage qualifiers learned their complete schedules Friday after the first two rounds had been announced on July 9.
The third round will begin September 14 and be highlighted by a match between Monterrey and two-time quarterfinalist Marathon of Honduras.
The Group Stage will open August 17 and finish October 21, with two teams from each of the four, four-team groups advancing to the quarterfinals in February and March. T
he two-leg knockout round will be followed by the semifinals in later March and April with the finals set for the final two weeks of April.

 Mexico wins English tournament
The Mexican beach soccer team won a four-team tournament in Sunderland, England, on Sunday, defeating the host nation on penalties after a 3-3 draw in regulation.
Mexico previously had defeated Germany 4-3 and Greece 3-2 before facing England.
Hugo Lopez of Mexico was the tournament's top scorer with five goals.
