ATLANTE EARNS SEMIFINAL DATE WITH FC BARCELONA AT CLUB WORLD CUP

Reigning CONCACAF champion Atlante will face off against three-time European champion FC Barcelona on Wednesday after beating Auckland City 3-0 on Saturday, Daniel Arreloa scored the only goal Atlante needed in the 36th minute, leading the Mexican side into the semifinals in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. A victory over Barcelona would earn Atlante a berth in the title game against Copa Libertadores winner Estudiantes of Argentina.

MONTERREY WINS APERTURA, EARNS PLACE IN 2010-11 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GROUP STAGE

Monterrey defeated host Cruz Azul 2-1 in Mexico City on Sunday to capture the Mexican Apertura championship, completing a 6-4 aggregate triumph. The domestic title is Monterrey's third and gave the Rayados an automatic place in the Group Stage of the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League. By virtue of its runner-up finish, Cruz Azul will return to CONCACAF's premier club competition for a third straight season and is assured of at least a Preliminary Round berth. Monterrey is the seventh different Mexican champion in as many seasons, while Cruz Azul has finished as runner-up in three of the last four.

ARABE UNIDO CLAIMS PANAMANIAN TITLE, RETURNS TO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Arabe Unido rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Tauro FC 3-2 in the championship game of the Panamanian Football League's Apertura. The win in La Chorrera on Sunday earned the Colon-based side its second straight trip to the CONCACAF Champions League. Arabe is assured of at least a place in the Preliminary Round and could advance directly to the Group Stage if it finishes with the best record over the Apertura and Clausura championships.

CENTRAL AMERICAN LEAGUES NEAR END TO TITLE CHASE

Costa Rica
Brujas defeated Liberia twice (2-1, 3-1) over five days in the quarterfinals of the Costa Rican Torneo Invierno to set-up a semifinal showdown against Group A winner Pérez Zeledón. In the other semifinal pairing, Group B winner Herediano will face Puntarenas, which edged Cartaginés 3-2 on aggregate in the other quarterfinal. The first leg in both semifinals will be played Wednesday, with the second leg set for Sunday.

Guatemala
Municipal and Comunicaciones will face off in the Liga Nacional finals, setting up a clash between Guatemala's two most popular teams. Municipal beat Heredia 1-0 in both games of their two-leg semifinal. Comunicaciones and Xelajú FC finished 1-1 on aggregate, but the Cremas advanced on away goals. Comunicaciones will host the first leg Wednesday, with Municipal being at home on Sunday.

El Salvador
Águila defeated Luis Angel Firpo 2-0 and 1-0 to clinch a place in next Sunday's Torneo Apertura final. It will meet FAS, which defeated Vista Hermosa 2-1 on aggregate in the other semifinal. The winner will qualify for a berth in the Preliminary Round of next season's Champions League.

Nicaragua
Walter Ferreti and Real Esteli will meet in the Torneo Apertura finals. The two-leg series will take place on December 20 and 27. The winner will be in position for Nicaragua's single place in the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League.








CAYMAN ISLANDS COMPLETES EIGHT-TEAM FIELD

Marissa McLaughlin scored five minutes after the opening kickoff, enough to give the Cayman Islands a 1-1 draw against the Dominican Republic on Saturday and the final berth in the CONCACAF Under-17 Women's Championship. McLaughlin's goal helped earn a 3-3 aggregate draw and a 2-1 victory on away goals having drawn the first leg 2-2 a week ago in the Dominican Republic in the two-leg Caribbean third-place playoff.

The Cayman Islands becomes the eighth and last team in the field for the championship, set for March 9-20 in San Jose, Costa Rica. It will join the defending champion United States, host Costa Rica and Haiti in Group B. Group A will consist of Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and Panama.








JOE PUBLIC FC WINS T&T'S DIGICEL PRO BOWL

Joe Public FC won its fifth domestic trophy of the season, capturing the Digicel Pro Bowl 5-3 on penalty kicks over Caledonia AIA after a 1-1 draw at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad. Densil Theobald put Caledonia ahead in the third minute, but Gorean Highley equalized 10 minutes before halftime.

ADVANCED COACHING COURSE TO BE INTRODUCED IN JAMAICA

Jamaica's football coaches will have the opportunity to further their education next year with the introduction of the Jamaica Football Federation/University of Technology Advanced Level 2 Coaching Course. Under the direction of FIFA instructors, two courses will be conducted (February 8-15 and February 18-25). The first of the two courses will be held at the University of Technology, while the second will be hosted in western Jamaica at a venue that will be announced at a later date.
