CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW RESULTS ANNOUNCED

Mexican regular season champion Toluca will face U.S. counterpart the Columbus Crew in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, paired together Tuesday in the tournament's Championship Round draw.

Pachuca will face Comunicaciones of Guatemala, Pumas will take on Honduras' Marathon and Cruz Azul will play Panama's Arabe Unido in the other quarterfinals, with the Mexican sides all hosting the second legs of their respective series.

Columbus, Comunicaciones, Marathon and Arabe Unido all will be home for the first leg the week of March 9-11 and then travel to Mexico for the second legs March 16-18.

The winner between Pumas and Marathon will advance to play the winner of Cruz Azul and Arabe Unido in Semifinal 1, with either Pumas or Marathon hosting the first leg the week of March 30-April 1.

The victor between Columbus and Toluca will host the survivor of the Pachuca-Comunicaciones quarterfinal in the first leg of Semifinal 2.

The second leg of the semifinals will be played April 6-8. The finals will be played April 20-22 and April 27-29 with the winner of Semifinal 1 playing the first leg at home.






COSTA RICA FALLS TO URUGUAY 1-0 IN FIRST LEG OF WORLD CUP PLAYOFF

Costa Rica fell 1-0 to Uruguay on Saturday (November 14) in the first leg of their World Cup playoff in San José's Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.

A goal by defender Diego Lugano gave Uruguay the away victory in a match Costa Rica was forced to play much of the second half with 10 men after a red card to Randall Azofeifa soon after the break.

The second leg will be played Wednesday (November 18) in Montevideo's Estadio Centenario. Costa Rica finished fourth in the final round of CONCACAF qualifying while Uruguay was fifth in South America's winnowing process.

UNITED STATES, CANADA FALL IN EUROPEAN FRIENDLIES; HONDURAS WINS AT HOME

The United States and Canada both lost on Saturday (November 14) in the first of two friendlies for both on their European tours.

The Americans lost 1-0 to Slovakia in Bratislava on a goal by Napoli's Marek Hamsik. The United States will face another World Cup side, Denmark, on Wednesday (November 18) in Aarhus.

Canada fell 3-0 to Macedonia on Saturday in Strumica. In a game that saw four penalty kicks, two for each side, Lazio's Goran Pandev converted twice for the home team. Canada will now face Poland in Bydgoszcz on Wednesday.

Honduras defeated Latvia 2-1 on an 87th-minute goal by Georgie Welcome at Tegucigalpa's Estadio Nacional. Carlo Costly scored the Catracho's first goal in the first half. Honduras plays Peru on Wednesday in Miami.

Jamaica tied 2010 World Cup host South Africa 0-0 on Tuesday (November 17) in Bloemfontein.






EL SALVADOR AND COSTA RICA FALTER IN THE BEACH SOCCER WORLD CUP IN DUBAI

El Salvador and Costa Rica both lost their first two matches in the 2010 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Ivory Coast scored with 48 seconds remaining to defeat El Salvador 7-6 on Monday (November 16) against Ivory Coast. El Salvador led 5-1 at one point in the 1st period. On Tuesday (November 17), El Salvador lost 7-3 to European champion Spain.

The CONCACAF champion will wrap up group play against Group B Japan on Wednesday (November 18). On Monday, Costa Rica lost 5-1 to Russia in Group C's opening match. A day later Costa Rica lost to Argentina 6-0 in its second match of the group stage. The Ticos will close the group stage against Italy on the Wednesday (November 18).

The final will be played on Sunday (November 22).






FIFA, CONCACAF TO OFFER COACHING COURSE

FIFA and CONCACAF will jointly stage a regional technical course for women's football in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from November 23-28.

The instructional symposium, which will be organized in conjunction with the 2010 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Trinidad, will look to offer a platform for coaching education at a regional level and to increase the impact of the women's youth championship on developing the women's game in the region.

CONCACAF member associations taking part will include Anguilla, Aruba, Barbados, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
