COSTA RICA FACES URUGUAY FOR FINAL WORLD CUP BERTH

Costa Rica will have another chance to qualify to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa when it faces Uruguay in a two-game playoff that begins Saturday (November 14) in Costa Rica's Estadio Ricardo Saprissa.

The second leg will be played four days later on November 18 in Montevideo's Estadio Centenario.

REDESIGNED CONCACAF.COM WEB SITE RELAUNCHED

The confederation Web site CONCACAF.com has been re-launched, adding new features such as live streaming capabilities, video on demand and enhanced photo galleries for all competitions.

The new www.concacaf.com site, developed in conjunction with Perform Group Ltd. of Britain, follows the redesign and debut of CONCACAF's Gold Cup and Champions League Web portals, which were unveiled earlier this year.






CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTERFINAL DRAW SET FOR NOVEMBER 17

Quarterfinalists in the CONCACAF Champions League will learn their knockout-round opponents on November 17 when the draw at the confederation's New York headquarters will set the pairings for the final eight.

The group winners will be drawn against one of the four teams that finished in second place, with no team playing another that it faced in the Group Stage in the two-leg series.

The teams that finished second will host the first leg of the quarterfinals the week of March 9-11, with the group winners hosting the second leg the week of March 16-18.

The potential pairings for the semifinals, to be played the weeks of March 30-April 1 and April 6-8, also will be set with the winners advancing to the finals April 20-22 and April 27-29.






UNITED STATES, MEXICO FALL IN ROUND-OF-16 AT UNDER-17 WORLD CUP

The United States and Mexico both returned home from the FIFA Under-17 World Cup last week after suffering losses in the round-of-16.

After both finished runner-up in their respective groups, the United States fell 2-1 to Group F winner Italy on Wednesday (November 4) in Kaduna, Nigeria. It was the fourth straight trip to the knockout rounds for the Americans.

Mexico lost 5-3 on penalties to the Republic of Korea following a 1-1 tie in regulation on Thursday (November 5). Mexico led until the 92nd minute when the Koreans equalized.

Costa Rica and Honduras returned earlier, eliminated in the Group Stage after going winless in three games.






EL SALVADOR AND COSTA RICA PREPARE FOR BEACH SOCCER WORLD CUP IN DUBAI

CONCACAF sides El Salvador and Costa Rica will begin their participation early next week in the 2010 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

CONCACAF champion El Salvador will open Group B on Monday (November 16) against Ivory Coast. The Cuscatlecos then will face Spain a day later before wrapping up group play against either Japan or Bahrain on November 18.

CONCACAF runner-up Costa Rica will take on Russia in Group C on Monday (November 16) before facing Argentina a day later. The Ticos will close the Group Stage against Italy on the November 18.

The final will played on November 22.






HAITI WINS GROUP A IN WOMEN'S U-17 CFU QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT; QUALIFIES FOR CONCACAF FINALS

Haiti claimed the Caribbean's second berth in the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, winning Group A of the CFU's qualifying event on home soil. The host opened with a 24-0 victory over the British Virgin Islands on Monday (November 2), and followed with wins over the Bahamas (5-0) on Wednesday and Cayman Islands (1-0) two days after that. T

he Cayman Islands, which opened with victories over the Bahamas (2-1) and the British Virgin Islands (13-0) before losing to Haiti, finished third and will face the Dominica Republic to determine the CFU's final representative in Costa Rica.

DATES FOR UNCAF WOMEN'S UNDER 17 QUALIFYING ANNOUNCED

The UNCAF women's Under-17 qualifying tournament will be played November 24-28 in La Chorrera, Panama. All games will be played at the Estadio Agustín Muquita Sánchez.

Host Panama along with Nicaragua and El Salvador will look for a berth in the CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship to be played in Costa Rica in March.

On November 24, Panama will face Nicaragua in the tournament's opener before Nicaragua meets El Salvador two days later. The tournament will end with Panama hosting El Salvador on November 28.
