 CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTERFINAL DRAW SET FOR NOVEMBER 17

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUARTERFINAL DRAW SET FOR NOVEMBER 17

Quarterfinalists in the CONCACAF Champions League will learn their knockout-round opponents on November 17 when the draw at the confederation's New York headquarters will set the pairings for the final eight.

The group winners will be drawn against one of the four teams that finished in second place, with no team playing another that it faced in the Group Stage in the two-leg series.

The teams that finished second will host the first leg of the quarterfinals the week of March 9-11, with the group winners hosting the second leg the week of March 16-18.

The potential pairings for the semifinals, to be played the weeks of March30-April 1 and April 6-8, also will be set with the winners advancing to the finals April 20-22 and April 27-29.






THE UNITED STATES AND MEXICO ADVANCE TO THE ROUND OF 16 AT THE UNDER-17 WORLD CUP

The United States and Mexico finished second in their respective groups to advance to the Round-of-16 at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup. Both teams lost their opening games of the tournament before winning the remaining two in the Group Stage.

The United States will face Group F winner Italy on Wednesday (November 4) while Mexico will face Group F runner-up Korea Republic on Thursday (November 5).

The United States opened with a 2-1 loss to Spain before beating Malawi 1-0 on Thursday (October 29) and the United Arab Emirates 1-0 on Sunday (November 1) to book a spot in the next round. Following a 2-0 loss to Switzerland and a 1-0 upset over Brazil, Mexico advanced with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Japan on Friday (October 30).

Honduras fell to Germany by a score of 3-1 in its final Group Stage match on Friday (October 30). Previously, Los Catrachos had fallen 1-0 to Argentina in the first match of Group A before losing to hosts Nigeria by the same margin.

Costa Rica was the first CONCACAF side to manage a point with a 1-1 draw against New Zealand in its opener, however, the Central American side proceeded to lose to Turkey and Burkina Faso by identical 4-1 scores.

The final will played on Sunday, November 15.






GROUP A ACTION BEGINS IN WOMEN'S U-17 CFU QUALIFYING TOURNAMENT

Roseland Bordella scored eight times and Yolande Merone another five to pace Haiti to a CONCACAF Women's Under-17 record 24-0 victory over the British Virgin Islands on Monday (November 2), the opening day of play in Group A of the women's U-17 CFU qualifying tournament at Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince.

The Cayman Islands defeated Bahamas 2-1 in the day's first game. The tournament continues on Wednesday (November 4) when the Cayman Islands play the British Virgin Islands and hosts Haiti face the Bahamas.

Group play will finish Friday (November 6) when the British Virgin Islands plays the Bahamas and Haiti meets the Cayman Islands. The winner of Group A will join Group B winner Jamaica in the CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship to be played in Costa Rica in March. The runner-up from Group A will face off against the Group B runner-up Dominican Republic to determine the CFU's final representative in Costa Rica next year.

DATES FOR UNCAF WOMEN'S UNDER 17 QUALIFYING ANNOUNCED

The UNCAF women's Under-17 qualifying tournament will be played November 24-28 in La Chorrera, Panama. All games will be played at the Estadio Agustín Muquita Sánchez.

Host Panama along with Nicaragua and El Salvador will look for a berth in the CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship to be played in Costa Rica in March.

On November 24, Panama will face Nicagarua in the tournament's opener before Nicaragua meets El Salvador two days later. The tournament will end with Panama hosting El Salvador on November 28.






GUYANA CAPTURES THE SURINAME INDEPENDENCE CUP 2009

Guyana won the Suriname Independence Cup 2009, a four-team tournament also featuring host Suriname, French Guyana and the Netherlands Antilles, this past week at the Andre Kamperveen Stadium in Paramaribo. Guyana won all three of its matches 1-0 .

Devon Millington scored the winner for Guyana against Suriname on Wednesday (October 28), while David Martinon scored twice for French Guyana in a 4-1 triumph over the Netherlands Antilles.

Two days later, Millington again scored the only goal to beat the Netherlands Antilles, while Iwan Pinas had three to lead Suriname over French Guyana 4-0. Dirk Archer provided the final goal for Guyana in its 1-0 victory over French Guyana, while Suriname was held to a 1-1 draw by the Netherlands Antilles.






JOE PUBLIC FC CROWNED TRINIDAD & TOBAGO'S 2009 DIGICEL PRO LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Joe Public FC won the Trinidad & Tobago Digicel Pro League title for a third time on Tuesday (October 27), drawing with W Connection 0-0 to finish with 52 points.

The Eastern Lions finished three points ahead of defending champions San Juan Jabloteh.

Joe Public also won the league's Big Six title as well as a berth to the Caribbean qualifying tournament to the 2010-2011 CONCACAF Champions League.
