The late Guillermo Cañedo of Mexico was a major figure in world football, in whom the whole of CONCACAF took pride. Mr. Cañedo served the best interests of Mexican football, CONCACAF and FIFA throughout a long and distinguished career. At the time of his death, he was Senior Vice-President of FIFA and its longest serving Executive Committee member. Of all his accomplishments, perhaps the most unique were the successful Presidencies of the host nation Organizing Committee for FIFA World Cups in both 1970 and 1986.
