Kurt Lamm served U.S. soccer in a multitude of capacities after emigrating from his native Austria - initially as a player, then as a coach and finally, in the post-war years, as Secretary of the American Soccer League. In that final post he helped assure that the league not only reached a high standard of play, but also provided for a football-hungry population the opportunity to view in person major teams from overseas. By leveraging his command of languages, worldwide contacts and knowledge of the game, Mr. Lamm later became General Secretary of the National Association, until his untimely death in office.
