GUATEMALA CITY - When Guatemala and the United States squared off on Wednesday in the last Group Stage encounter of the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championship, it became the 100th game played in the competition's history.

In order to commemorate the event, the team captains - Guatemala's Estuardo De Leon and Matthew Stewart of the USA -- and match officials gathered for a photo behind a sign board that was created to acknowledge the occasion for historical purposes.

Additionally, special Nike match balls were used for the game and one was presented to each of the participating teams for their federations' archival collections.

The first-ever CONCACAF Futsal Championship game was played on August 31, 1996, when Costa Rica beat Cuba 6-4 in the opener of a doubleheader at the FUTECA Roosevelt in Guatemala City.In the nightcap, Guatemala narrowly got past El Salvador, 3-2, before a crowd of 2,500.
