The primary item on the agenda is FIFA Standard Statutes and how associations can best work towards their adoption.

FIFA Standard Statutes provide a template of statutes intended to assist an association in the organization of its administrative, judicial and legislative bodies.

The focus of meetings this week is the world governing body's anticipation that member associations will embrace the statutes and incorporate them into their normal operations.

"We consider the statutes or bylaws to be the backbone of a national association," said FIFA's Deputy Head of Corporate Legal/Division of Legal Affairs, Tanja Vogel, who is in Miami for the meetings."The better the statutes are, the better the national association will function."

Vogel traveled to Havana to meet with the Cuban Football Association before heading to Miami for a series meetings with other national associations, including those from Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Guyana and Jamaica.

The entire process starts with a national association sending its bylaws and statutes to the FIFA Corporate Legal Department. FIFA reviews the documents and, then, submits a response. At times, it is necessary to meet in person, so that questions or issues can be clarified. In the case of this week, FIFA elected to visit CONCACAF and invited member associations to join them in Miami.

"It is very good to discuss face-to-face with a national association, so they can better understand," said Thierry Regenass, the FIFA Director of Member Associations & Development Division."It has been very positive."

FIFA is in the processof working with all members to adopt FIFA Standard Statutes and has previously convenedwith the Asian Football Confederation and the Confederation of Africa Football, using the same method.

"I think these meetings are really important," added Vogel."When you discuss matters with the members, everything makes sense."

FIFA anticipates that future meetings with other national associations in CONCACAF will certainly occur.

"The meetings are very useful," finished Regenass."We are very grateful to CONCACAF for their support in helping organize them."
