The objective of the gathering was to provide high-level instruction to those officials prepared to officiate at CONCACAF competitions. Of the participants, 20 have been appointed to work the upcoming CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying tournament, also in Cancun.

"We are asking them to focus on getting the right decision," said the USA's Sandra Hunt, one of three course instructors. "We are trying to provide the referees and assistant referees a context to help them better, so that we always get the right decision and the right interpretation."

Among the topics covered were offside situations, advantage rules, handballs and simulation.

The participants viewed plays from official tournaments and were asked to make potential calls based on the FIFA Laws of the Game.

In addition to classroom work, the referees trained twice a day under the guidance of fitness instructor Allan Brown of Costa Rica.

"The fitness trainer is here to provide maintenance fitness" commented Hunt. "These women have already passed the test, so we know they're fit.

"We are doing everything we can to insure that for the teams and the players we get the correct decision."

El Salvador's Rodolfo Sibrian and Ronald Gutierrez of Costa Rica were the other course instructors.
