Edgar Barreto opened the scoring for the Paraguay (2-0-0, 6 Points) in the 30th minute, but Ricardo Clark tied it for the USA (0-2-0, 0 Points) 10 minutes later.
Oscar Cardozo and Salvador Cabanas scored in the 56th and 90th minutes, respectively, for Paraguay in the 3:1 victory over the USA.
The win secured Paraguay a place in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Copa América, while the USA lose their second consecutive game for the first time since 2003.
The 2007 Copa América continues for the CONCACAF teams on Wednesday (4 July) with Group B action as the quarterfinal bound Mexico (2-0-0, 6 Points) faces Chile (1-1-0, 3 Points) at the Estadio General José Anzoatégui in Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela at 18:35.
At the conclusion of the first round on 5 July, the top two from each group along side the two best third-place finishers will progress to the quarterfinals from 7-8 July.
The semifinals will take place in Maraciabo & Puerto Ordaz on 10 & 11 July, respectively. The third-place match is scheduled for Caracas on 14 July, with the championship match set for the following day in Maraciabo.
