The crowd of 43,543 saw the stars & stripes take the lead with a goal by Carlos Bocanegra in the 21st minute, but an own goal by USA's Oguchi Onyewu tied it for the samba kings 12 minutes later.
After Lucio gave Brazil the advantage in the 53rd minute, Clint Dempsey tied it for the USA in the 73rd minute. Two minutes later, the samba kings took the lead again with a goal from Ronaldinho and then closed out the scoring with a penalty kick tally by Elano in the 90th minute.
The stars & stripes' two goals were the most scored against the samba kings since their first meeting in Rio de Janeiro on 17 August 1930, as Brazil won 4:3.
The lost was also the fifth consecutive one for the USA which is the longest streak since 1994.
Elsewhere, Costa Rica played Honduras to a scoreless draw at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut USA on Sunday. The encounter was decided on penalties with the ticos topping the catrachos 3:2.
Also on Sunday, Mexico had a 1:0 lead over visiting Panama in a friendly at Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, but the match was abandoned after 45 minutes due to strong rain that flooded the field. The only score of the match was an own goal by Panama's Felipe Baloy in the 33rd minute.
In another friendly held on Saturday, El Salvador visited Ecuador and lost 5:1 at the Estadio Atahualpa in Quito.
The international friendlies continue this week for the CONCACAF teams as Mexico faces Brazil at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts USA on Wednesday, while Costa Rica travels to face Canada at the BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Panama visits Venezuela at the Estadio José Antonio Anzoátegui in Puerto de la Cruz, while Honduras hosts Ecuador at the Estadio Olímpico in San Pedro Sula.
On Thursday, Trinidad & Tobago takes on Guatemala at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA.
