Kaka and Alfonso scored in the 79th and 87th minutes, respectively, for Brazil in their first victory over Mexico since 18 July 2004, 4:0, in Piura, Peru during the quarterfinals of the Copa América.
Prior to the lost on Wednesday, the tricolores had beaten the samba kings in the last two meetings, during the FIFA Confederations Cup Germany 2005 (1:0) and Copa América Venezuela 2007 (2:0) , respectively.
Elsewhere, Canada played visiting Costa Rica to a 1:1 draw at the BMO Field in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday. Víctor Núñez opened the scoring for the ticos in the 48th minute, but Dwayne DeRosario leveled it five minutes later for the maple leafs
The results continue a three-game winless streak for both, Canada and Costa Rica.
