After a first half without goals, Michael Bradley scored for the stars & stripes with four minutes remaining in the victory over the Swiss.
This is also the first victory for the USA over Switzerland in seven meetings between the two teams since 1978.
The stars & stripes will travel next month to face South Africa in a friendly at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on 17 November.
