Mexican sides Club América and CD Guadalajara face tricky second-leg quarterfinal ties this week in the 2007 Copa Nissan Sudamericana. If both teams survive their respective ties they will square off against each other at the semifinal stage guaranteeing a CONCACAF team will make the final for the third consecutive year.

Success for teams from Mexico in the Copa Sudamericana has been something of a theme since CONCACAF teams entered this competition three years ago with Pumas UNAM losing in the final in 2005 and Pachuca CF going one step better last year defeating Colo-Colo (Chile) over two legs to win the competition.

In the 2007 iteration of the competition Club América defeated Vasco da Gama 2:0 in the first-leg of the quarterfinal at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City with goals from Dulio Davino and Hernán Rodrigo López. The águilas now travel to Rio de Janeiro to attempt to complete the job and book their place in the last four.

CD Guadalajara, who defeated D.C. United (USA) in the Round-of-16, will match up against Arsenal (Argentina) with the game in the balance after a 0:0 draw in Sarandí. Having lost at the exact same stage of the competition in 2005 also to an Argentinian team, Vélez Sarsfield, chivas will be determined to close out the tie in front of their home fans and progress to the last four for the first time in the club's history.
