Steve Cherundolo's first half goal was all that the USA needed to defeat South Africa by a score of 1:0 at the Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday (17 November). The victory was the first for the Stars & Stripes in their third appearance on African soil.
In another encounter on Saturday, Honduras extended their unbeaten streak to four games as they topped Guatemala, 1:0, at Miami's Dolphin Stadium. Walter Martinez scored the only goal of the match for the Catrachos in the victory over the Chapines.
Elsewhere, two goals by Ricardo Gardener and another from Rudolph Austin led Jamaica to a 3:0 triumph over visiting El Salvador at the National Stadium in Kingston on Sunday (18 November). The victory was the first for the Reggae Boyz in Kingston since they defeated Canada, 2:1, on 8 October 2006.
CONCACAF teams will continue to see action in friendlies this week as Canada visits South Africa at the ABSA Stadium in Durban on Tuesday (20 November). The following day, Panama host Costa Rica at the Estadio Rod Carew in Panama City, while Guatemala travels to face Jamaica at the National Stadium.
