Mr. Warner was in good spirits on receiving Vela who used the occasion to thank Warner profusely for his efforts in developing football in the region, particularly in Central America and Guatemala.
"Mr. Vela paid me a courtesy visit today and I was more than happy to have him present here in our offices where our friends from throughout the region are always welcomed to meet with me once I am in the country of course," said Mr. Warner. "The Ambassador is particularly interested in ensuring that there are good relations between Trinidad and Tobago and Guatemala. Football is one of the major avenues to do this and he understands this. He expressed his gratitude for the efforts towards betterment being made by an organization led by myself."
Vela also remembered the special medical attention afforded to Guatemala Under-15 player during the CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Youth Cup a couple years ago in Port of Spain. The player suffered a severe head injury and underwent emergency treatment at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital.
"I wanted to personally thank Mr. Warner for his assistance in the treatment of our country's young player," said Vela. "Today he is much better because of that special care."
Warner meantime, also extended congratulations to Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago on their qualification for the CONCACAF Futsal Championship to be staged in Guatemala City this coming June.
Trinidad & Tobago defeated Haiti 6:3 in the final of the CFU Futsal Tournament at Canedo Hall in Macoya on 6 April.
"This was the second time we staged a Caribbean Futsal Championship and that version of the game will continue to grow and attract more interest," said Mr. Warner. "My heartfelt congratulations goes out to the two qualifiers from the Caribbean (Trinidad & Tobago, Haiti) and I expect that they will be strong contenders in the CONCACAF Finals to be held in Guatemala in June."
Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago join Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, USA and the host, Guatemala at the 2008 CONCACAF Futsal Championship at Guatemala City's Domo Polideportivo from 2-8 June.
