With a date with current Caribbean Champions Haiti looming large on Sunday, the Netherlands Antilles were defeated 1:0 by CONMEBOL opponents, Venezuela, ranked some 83 places above the Caribbean nation with the goal coming fifteen minutes from the end of the game. It was a promising performance, despite the final score, and the Netherlands Antilles will go into their Second Stage World Cup Qualifying encounter with confidence following their pair two wins over Nicaragua in Stage One of the World Cup Qualifying. A 1:0 win in Diriamba, Nicaragua was followed up by a 2:0 home win in Willemstad setting up the tie with Haiti.
Grenada who face Costa Rica this weekend in World Cup Qualifying action beat the Reggae Boyz 2:1 in a friendly game at St. George's National Stadium. For the Jamaicans it was a third match in a week against Caribbean opposition, having defeated St. Vincent and the Grenadines 5:1 and drawn 1:1 with Trinidad & Tobago. Jamaica face the Bahamas this weekend in World Cup Qualifying as they continue their quest to make it all the way back to the FIFA World Cup for a second time. Grenada who were down 1:0 at half time turned the game around with a brace from Jason Roberts who plies his club trade in England to record their first victory against Jamaica since 2002.
