Canada finished third in Group E following a 2:1 loss to Sweden at Worker's Stadium in Beijing. Lotta Schelin scored twice for the Swedes, while Melissa Tancredi had the only goal for the Maple Leafs.
The overall group record (1 win - 1 loss - 1 draw, 4 Points) was enough to put Canada in the quarterfinals as one of the best third-place finishers.
Elsewhere, the USA defeated New Zealand by a score of 4:0 in Group F play at the Olympic Sports Center Wu Lihe Stadium in Shenyang. Angela Hucles, Lindsay Tarpley, Heather O'Reilly and Amy Rodriguez all scored for the Stars & Stripes as they claimed first place over Norway on goal difference (+3 to - 1).
The USA will now face Canada in a quarterfinal encounter set for Shanghai Stadium on 15 August as CONCACAF is assured one of the four semifinal places.
The Football Tournament continues for the CONCACAF teams with the Men's Competition on Wednesday with the USA taking on Nigeria in Group B at the Worker's Stadium, while Honduras face Korea Republic at Shanghai Stadium.
