After the USA's Michael Orozco was sent off in the third minute, Nigeria took the lead in the 39th minute with a goal by Promise Isaac.
Nigeria made it 2:0 with a goal from Victor Obinna. Then, Sacha Kljestan got the Stars & Stripes on the board with a penalty kick goal in the 88th minute, but the Super Eagles held on for the victory.
Elsewhere, Dong Jin Kim scored the game-winner for Korea Republic in the 23rd minute as they defeated Honduras, 1:0, in a Group D encounter at Shanghai Stadium. Honduras was already eliminated from the tournament prior to their match against Korea Republic.
This is the first time since the 1992 Olympic Games that no CONCACAF men's team advanced out of the first round groups.
The Football Tournament continues for the CONCACAF teams with the Women's Tournament Quarterfinals as the defending gold medal winners USA face Canada at the Shanghai Stadium on 15 August.
