SAN NICOLÁS DE LOS GARZA, Mexico - Ten-man Tigres rallied from two goals down to tie Pumas 2-2 in a preseason friendly on Saturday at the Estadio Universitario.
Tigres, which has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2012/13 CONCACAF Champions League, debuted three new signings -- Emanuel Villa, Jose Francisco Torres and Danilo Veron.
Before those in the near-capacity crowd had a chance to settle in, Pumas went ahead in the fourth minute thanks to a header by Martin Bravo off a cross from the right by Javier Cortes.
Just as it appeared that UANL was starting to get comfortable, the Mexico City-based club doubled its lead in the 20th minute. Eduardo Herrera drifted past the past central defenders into the box and half-volleyed a long pass across goalkeeper Enrique Palos into the net.
Tigres - to its credit - didn't panic and stuck to the game plan.
Lucas Lobos tested Pumas goalkeeper Alejandro Palacios shortly after Hererra's goal and, seconds past the half-hour mark, dynamic play from Torres created another opportunity.
In the 35th minute, the host deservedly halved the deficit. Lobos rolled a pass inside the box to Villa, who laid it off to a charging Israel Villa. The 23-year-old midfielder, with flawless technique, unleashed a shot from nearly 25-yards out that raged past a stretched-to-the-limit Palacios.
Shortly after the break, though, Jimenez was ejected from the game for hitting Pumas' Jehu Chiapas in the face, leaving Tigres down a player.
Despite the disadvantage in manpower, the side from northern Mexico leveled the score with nine minutes left on the clock, when Anselmo Vendrechovski Júnior "Juninho" struck a right-footed free kick from 30-yards out that gave a sprawling Palacios no chance.
Tigres opens its 2013 Clausura schedule at home against Jaguares on January 5, while Pumas meets visiting Atlas one day later.
