TOYOTA, Japan - Following a complete performance in a 3-1 FIFA Club World Cup quarterfinal win over Ulsan Hyundai, Monterrey knows that it does not have much time to celebrate. After all, a Thursday clash against European champion Chelsea awaits and a place in the final is at stake.

The Rayados were sensational on Sunday, offering a passing master class against the Asian champion.

Cesar Delgado scored two goals in the second half, clinching the victory and putting his team in a position to achieve history.

"We know it's very beautiful to face a team like Chelsea, it re-doubles the motivation," said the Argentine, a Gold Medal winner at the 2004 Olympic Games. "For us it is very important, for the entire team it is a motivation knowing that Chelsea will play differently, not like the team today, then we know we can win, we can progress."

He added: "I'm very happy because the team played a great match. The team helped me score two goals. That makes me happy."

For goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco, the opportunity to face Chelsea and his idol, Petr Cech, is an occasion to be savored. The 26-year-old conceded an unlikely goal against Ulsan, but that does nothing to diminish the consistency that he has displayed over the last few years in both the Mexican and CONCACAF Champions leagues. He prefers to look ahead and understands the bigger picture.

"We have this desire, we have ambition, we want to make history," said Orozco, who has two caps with Mexico. "We want to lift up the name of Mexico, we do things and beyond."

The lively play of young Jesus Corona was one of the reasons for Monterrey's win on Sunday. He scored the opening goal, but his one-touch passing and ability to draw in defenders repeatedly unsettled the Uslan backline.

Surpassing the fine footballing skills that Corona demonstrated during the game, possibly, was the impressive level of maturity he exhibited afterwards.

"I think we should keep our feet on the ground," said the perceptive 19-year-old, who has also scored one goal in this season's CONCACAF Champions League. "We should be thankful for the good reviews, but you have to keep doing the same on the field."

Corona and his team mates will have another opportunity to make an even a larger mark on the world stage when they face Chelsea in a battle of champions at International Stadium Yokohama.
