HEREDIA, Costa Rica - Odir Jacques resigned as manager of Herediano on Saturday and was immediately replaced by assistant coach and former Costa Rican national team striker Claudio Miguel Jara, the club announced on its website.

No reason was given for the resignation of the 66-year-old Brazilian in the three-sentence release issued by the club.

Herediano won its CONCACAF Champions League opener, 1-0 over Real Salt Lake, on July 31, and was in fourth place in the Costa Rican Apertura with 11 points, three behind league leader Alajuelense.

It was unbeaten in its last three, had won its last match, 2-0 over CS Uruguay de Coronado, and was to play at Puntarenas on Sunday.

Jara, 53, played 46 times for Costa Rica from 1983 to 1994 after making his professional debut for Herediano in 1982. He played in all four games for Costa Rica at the 1990 World Cup.

Herediano will play its next Champions League game against Tauro in Panama City on August 30.
