CARSON, California -- David Beckham set up two goals and scored one of his own to rally the LA Galaxy to a 5-2 victory over Isidro Metapan on Thursday in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Beckham's crosses resulted in an own-goal by Ricardo Alvarado in the 20th and header by Robbie Keane two minutes later. Then he curled a corner kick in the first minute of first-half injury time that Metapan keeper Fidel Mondragon couldn't punch clear and resulted in the 1,000th goal since the Champions League was inaugurated in 2008.

LA, which played without injured midfielder-captain Landon Donovan , finished the final 20 minutes with 10 men after Robbie Keane was yellow carded for what Mexican referee Alfredo Penaloza apparently thought was a dive and then was ejected for complaining.

The Galaxy added two goals despite the disadvantage by Juninho, who tapped in a cross from Michael Stephens in the 82nd and tacked on a finale in the third minute of injury time.

The match was a meeting between two of last season's quarterfinalists and left both with three points atop Group 5. Metapan has played two games while the Galaxy was making its season debut.

The Galaxy started quickly with Keane curling a shot wide of the right post from inside the penalty area less than a minute after the opening kickoff.

Omar Gonzalez drove a header off a Beckham corner that Mondragon had to block in the third minute and Jose Villarreal hit a looping header from another Beckham corner that Mondragon tipped onto the crossbar four five minutes later.

But Metapan went ahead in the 17th against the run of play when Shawn Martin sprinted toward goal from the left, crossed into the area to Paolo Suarez, whose initial shot was cleared off the line by Todd Dunivant.

The ball fell to Nicolas Munoz, who knocked the ball in off the right post.

But LA recovered quickly. Three minutes later Beckham curled a right-footed ball into the area that Mondragon came off his line to punch. The ball stuck Alvarado and caromed back into the Metapan goal.

The goal quickly swung the match back in the Galaxy's favor, with Beckham sending another cross two minutes later that bounced once in the penalty area for Keane to head in at the left post.

Beckham then added some insurance in injury time, sending an in-swinging corner that Mondragon tried to reach over teammate Milton Molina at the near post, but instead only knocked it into his own net.

Metapan had more of the play in the second half, particularly when LA keeper Josh Saunders had to go low to slap Suarez's right-footed shot around the right post.

It gained an advantage when Keane was ejected, but 11 minutes later Juninho all but settled the result when he turned in Stephens' cross from the middle of the area.

Metapan scored a late consolation goal in the 87th with a penalty by Munoz, awarded when second-half substitute Bryan Gaul was called for dragging down Martin. But Juninho restored the three-goal bulge, streaking in on the left before finishing low inside the post.
