SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador - First half goals by Brian Ching and Cam Weaver and a second-half tally by Je-Vaughn Watson helped the Houston Dynamo to a 3-1 win over CD FAS in the CONCACAF Champions League.
It was the first victory away from home in eight Champions League matches for Houston, which climbed atop Group 3 alongside Olimpia of Honduras with three points.
Houston, which had lost three of its last four away matches in the Champions League, led 2-0 within 20 minutes.
Colin Clark, who had time and space, served a ball into the box where an unmarked Ching beat FAS goalkeeper Luis Contreras with a downward header from the edge of the six-yard box in the 12th.
Just seven minutes later, Kofi Sarkodie was freed down the right side after trading passes with Watson, and Weaver latched onto his cross to head in the Dynamo's second goal from eight meters.
The best scoring chance for CD FAS in the first half, a low shot from Alejandro Bentos in the second minute of stoppage time, was actually negated by offside.
Houston's second-choice goalkeeper Tyler Deric was forced into action in the 53rd minute, diving to his left to save a low left-footed shot by Alexander Larin from 24 meters.
However, the Dynamo took a commanding 3-0 lead on the hour mark when Watson headed home Nathan Sturgis' corner kick.
Four minutes later, FAS pulled within 3-1 as second-half substitute Jonathan Aguila flicked a close-range shot past Deric in traffic.
FAS continued to press forward but stalled in the final third.
The Dynamo next takes on Olimpia at Estadio Tiburcio Carias Andino on August 30. FAS, which has been outscored 6-1 in consecutive losses, will face the Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium in its next CONCACAF Champions League encounter on September 20.
