TORREON, Mexico - Darwin Quintero scored two of his three goals in the first 26 minutes and Santos opened its bid for the CONCACAF Champions League title with a 5-0 win over Aguila on Tuesday.

Last-season's runner-up to Monterrey, Santos also had goals from Gerardo Lugo and Daniel Luduena to win for the 18th time in 19 games at home in the Champions League.

The result was the second lopsided defeat for tournament debutante Aguila, which was beaten 5-1 by Toronto FC on August 1 at BMO Field.

Santos, which made only four lineup changes from its 2-1 loss to Pumas on Saturday, dominated from the start. Los Guerreros had their first shot within three minutes, took the lead on Quintero's first goal in the sixth minute and established a 4-0 advantage by halftime.

Quintero, who had four goals in the Champions League last season and three in the 2010-11 season, put Santos ahead in the sixth minute. He settled a ball from just inside the Santos half from Kenyi Adachi, trapping it touch at the 18, taking another touch to get around Aguila keeper Benji Villalobos - who had come well off his line, and simply rolled it into the net.

His second came after a Luduena free kick from 30 meters was tipped onto the right post by a diving Villalobos. The ball caromed off the post, struck Villalobos in the back and dropped on the goal line. Quintero darted in and outraced Aguila defender Mardoqueo Henriquez to knock it over the line.

Lugo hiked the lead to 3-0 in the 30th, pouncing on a rebound after Mexican Olympic hero Oribe Peralta's shot from the middle of the area was blocked on the line by Luis Anaya's hand. American referee Edvin Jurisevic let the play continue despite the handball, but then yellow carded the Aguila captain after the goal was scored.

Luduena added his goal in the 41st, running into the middle of the area after Peralta was dispossessed of the ball, pirouetting at the penalty spot with Villalobos again coming off his line, and shooting into virtually an empty net.

Quintero tacked on his last goal less than a minute and a half after the restart, dribbling in from midfield, shrugging off a challenge from Deris Umanzor at the 18 and rolling a shot past Villalobos from the edge of the six.

About the only sour note for Santos was Peralta, who besides having a goal denied because of a handball, put a header off the crossbar in the 66th minute.

Aguila managed only two shots in the first half and didn't require Santos keeper Oswaldo Sanchez to handle the ball for the first 13 minutes.

Santos, which ended a three-game winless streak with the result, next travels to Toronto on August 28. Aguila, outscored 10-1 in its two games so far in the Champions League, will not play again until hosting Santos on September 19.
