Pablo Gabas' 35-meter free kick that gave Alajuelense a 1-0 victory over the LA Galaxy in the Group Stage was chosen the best goal of the 2011-2012 CONCACAF Champions League, garnering over half of the more than 3,000 votes in a fan poll.
Gabas' left-footed blast in the 28th minute of the September 21 match that left Galaxy keeper stretching in vain to reach the ball before it entered the upper corner received 52.3 percent of the combined ballots on CONCACAF's English and Spanish Facebook pages.
It was more than twice as much as the next most popular goal, Mark Lester Blanco's dribbling display to elude three Pumas defenders before pivoting from the middle of the area - one of two goals on the night - to lift Metapan past the Mexican side 2-1 in the first leg of the quarterfinals on March 8.
Lester's goal received 21.4 percent of the vote in the 11 days of voting that concluded Thursday.
Fans were asked to select from 10 nominees available for viewing on CONCACAF.com.
