PANAMA CITY - Tauro FC extended its record with a ninth Panamanian league title and claimed a third straight berth in the CONCACAF Champions League with a 2-1 victory over Chepo Tuesday night in the Clausura final.
Lionel Parris and Luis Renteria both scored for Tauro, which qualified for the Champions League for a fourth time in five years. The match had to be postponed from Friday, when torrential rain prohibited play.
Tauro becomes the 20th team to secure a place in the 24-team field, leaving only the Canadian berth and three spots from the Caribbean still undecided.
It will join Apertura champion Chorillo FC as Panama's two representatives in the Champions League. Tauro has finished third and fourth in its two Group Stage appearances and was eliminated by Marathon in the Preliminary Round in 2010.
The championship gives Tauro two more league titles than its closest rival, San Francisco FC.
