NEW YORK - The Major League Soccer expansion Montreal Impact will face three-time defending champion Toronto FC, and the Vancouver Whitecaps will play FC Edmonton in the Amway Canadian Championship.
Both series will begin Wednesday, May 2, with Montreal and Edmonton host the first legs with the second legs a week later in Toronto and Vancouver.
The winners will meet May 16 and May 23 for the Voyaguers Cup and a berth in next season's CONCACAF Champions League.
Toronto defeated Edmonton in last year's semifinals and then rallied to beat Vancouver in the finals of the second leg - a match that had to be replayed after the initial attempt was abandoned due to lightning and torrential rain. Toronto went on to reach the semifinals of this year's Champions League before being eliminated by Santos.
Montreal, which won the title in 2008 under a different structure, is playing as a first-division side for the first time, having elevated its status as MLS' 19th team.
The new year also has brought in a name change in the title sponsor the Canadian club championship, from the Nutrilite brand of health supplements to its parent company Amway.
