TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras - The LA Galaxy became the eighth and final team to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals Thursday night, beating Motagua 1-0 to win Group A.

The result eliminated Alajuelense, which became the first club not to reach the knockout round despite finishing the group stage with 12 points.

The Galaxy, Morelia and Alajuelense all finished with 12 points, but the Costa Rican side was left out due to goal difference in the results among the three teams.

Juninho accounted for the only goal, spotting Motagua keeper Donaldo Morales having drifted off his line and arcing a 40-meter, right-footed drive inside the right post.

The win was the first away from The Home Depot Center in the Champions League this year for Los Angeles, which was eliminated by the Puerto Rico Islanders in the Preliminary Round a year ago.

Motagua last in the Honduran Apertura, finished with a sixth straight loss in the Champions League, outscored 14-2.

Despite starting the match with Amado Guevara and Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez on the bench, Motagua had its share of play in the first half, earning five corners before the Galaxy had its first in the 35th minute.

Los Angeles struggled with giveaways in the midfield and its own half, which resulted in several chances for Jerry Bengston, who often found himself alone up front for Motagua.

The Galaxy played without the injured Robbie Keane and captain Landon Donovan on the bench. Donovan entered the match midway through the second half, putting a shot over the bar from the top of the penalty area in the 89th minute.

Motagua inserted Guevara at the start of the second half and then Ramirez in the 75th, but rarely tested reserve Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders.

The loss was the third straight for Motagua and extended its losing streak to seven, with only three goals during the skid.

The Galaxy joined fellow Major League Soccer sides Seattle and Toronto, Mexican clubs Morelia, Santos, Pumas and Santos, as well as El Salvador's Metapan in the knockout round in March.
