TORREON, Mexico - Second-half substitute Ivan Estrada scored three minutes into second-half injury time and earned Santos a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew Tuesday in the CONCACAF Champions League.

Columbus midfielder Eddie Gaven tried to clear a cross into the area but only deflected it to near the 18, where Estrada hit a left-footed sideways scissors, beating goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum with virtually the last kick of the match.

The result extended Santos' nine-game winning streak at home in the CONCACAF Champions League and added to American futility in Mexico. The loss was the 16th in 18 matches by a side from Major League Soccer, who have only managed two draws.

The match also included a disallowed Columbus goal by Emilio Renteria in the 22nd minute for the Venezuelan forward having a jersey without a number.

Renteria was injured by a flying backward elbow by Jaime Toledo in the 20th minute, opening a cut over his right eye and forcing him to receive treatment to close the wound at the Crew bench. He changed his shirt, presumably due to blood on his shirt.

He appeared to be waved onto the field by Panamanian referee Luis Rodriguez and took a pass on a free kick down the right. He volleyed a cross to the edge of the six-yard box, where Andy Iro converted with a header. But after a conference with Mexican fourth official Ricardo Arellano, Rodriguez disallowed the goal and cautioned Renteria, forcing him to don a shirt with a number.

Santos, coming off its only loss in five games in the Mexican Apertura on Saturday, had the better of play and chances, but Columbus also had its moments. Both sides utilized second-choice lineups, making nine changes each from its league matches over the weekend.

The Mexican side Santos clearly had the better of chances in the second half, creating repeated chances in the final 20 minutes. Second-half substitute Carlos Darwin Quintero put a shot from 30 meters off the crossbar in the 84th for the best before the goal.

Quintero also had a chance in the 56th, sprinting into the right side of the area before driving a shot that Gruenebaum had to dive to punch away. He also missed just wide of the right post from the edge of the six-yard box in the 60th.

Columbus' has won only once away from home in seven matches in the Champions League.
