MACOYA, Trinidad - The Puerto Rico Islanders became the third team to qualify for a third straight CONCACAF Champions League, getting a 90th-minute goal from Josh Hansen for a 1-1 draw with Joe Public on Friday that sent both to next season's confederation championship tournament.
The result left both with four points in the four-team final round of the Caribbean Club Champions Cup with one match remaining. San Juan Jabloteh beat Bayamon FC 4-1 in Friday's other match that earned it the third and final berth from the Caribbean.
Jabloteh has three points and Bayamon zero, but even if Bayamon won its final match Sunday against Joe Public, Jabloteh would advance based on their head-to-head result.
The three Caribbean qualifiers brings to 14 the number of teams that have guaranteed their place in next season's Champions League, leaving 10 spots still available.
Hansen's goal was his second in as many games and fourth in the CFU club championship. He also scored in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Bayamon.
Puerto Rico, which reached the semifinals of the in 2009, joins Mexico's Cruz Azul - a two-time Champions League runner-up, and Marathon of Honduras as the only teams to qualify for the Champions League each year since it was inaugurated.
