CANCUN, MEXICO -- Mexico will be confirmed as one of the world's Beach Soccer hotspots on Friday, when the Beach Soccer Worldwide Cancun Cup 2012 commences at the Hotel Royal Sunset Beach.

Three of CONCACAF's top squads -- host Mexico, El Salvador and the United States -- plus, European side Spain, will compete in the Feb. 10-12 round-robin tournament. The team with the most points after three games will be crowned champion.

Ramón Raya, head coach of Mexico, is fully aware of the tournament's importance and its value.

"There's a great love for the sport here in Mexico, and the National Team is really followed by the fans, especially after our great performance in the 2007 World Cup," said Raya."This Cup is going to be a great window for the sport, with such powerful teams involved, and I am sure this will help fans, organizers and promoters to realize the huge amount of things Beach Soccer can offer."

Mexico hosted and won the 2010 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship in Puerto Vallarta, defeating El Salvador 5-3 in the final. Both teams advanced to the 2011 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Ravenna, Italy, where the Cuscatlecos impressed all observers by finishing fourth in the competition.

The Cancun Cup launches with a doubleheader opening encounter between Spain and the United States. They met last year in theMiami Cup, where the Stars and Stripes prevailed 1-0 on penalty kicks after a 3-3 draw.

El Salvador and Mexico will write the next chapter of their rivalry in the nightcap.

The action continues through Sunday, when a celebrity match precedes the final doubleheader (Spain v El Salvador & Mexico v USA).
