CHICAGO - The women's national teams of the United States and Mexico discovered Thursday that they have been placed in Groups B and C, respectively, at the annual Algarve Cup in Portugal that will run from March 6-13.

The U.S. will open on March 6 against Iceland, then face China on March 8 and Sweden on March 11 to finish group play with a game that will mark the team's first meeting against former head coach Pia Sundhage, who has taken the reigns for her home country.

Mexico will square-off against Hungary (March 6), Wales (March 8) and host Portugal (March 11). The Mexicans split two encounters against the Portuguese in Brazil late last year (1-0 loss on Dec. 16, 2-0 win on Dec. 19…Sophia Huerta scored both goals).

Group A will feature Germany, Denmark, Japan and Norway.

The 2013 Algarve Cup will be the 20th edition of a tournament that has grown into one of the world's best for women's national teams.

This will be the 18th trip to the Algarve Cup for the record eight-time tournament champion United States. Last year, the Americans lost to Japan 1-0 in group play (which turned out to be the team's only loss of the year) and missed the championship game for the first time in 10 years.

The U.S. has a 49-10-8 record all-time at the Algarve Cup, amassing 147 goals and conceding 53.
