SAO PAULO, Brazil -- Mexico's under-17 national team continued to perform impressively at the Torneo Avai on Wednesday, completing the first round with a perfect 3-0-0 record after a 1-0 defeat of Sao Paulo. Morelia's Ulises Jaimes scored the game winner in the 73rd minute for his second goal of the tournament.

The Tricolores have progressed to Friday's semifinal and are waiting on the identity of their opponent.

Mexico opened the competition on Monday with a 4-2 win over Bolivia's Semillero.Pachuca midfielder Ivan Ochoa opened the scoring with a 2nd minute goal. Ulysses Rivas of Santos added two of his own in the 35th and 49th minutes, before Jaimes finished with an 80th minute strike.

In its second outing on Tuesday, Mexico upended Brazilian side Figueirense, 4-2. Rivas got the Tricolores on the board in the 33rd minute with his third goal of the tournament. Two tallies by Antonio Granados (50', 55') sandwiched a 52nd minute own-goal.

Mexico is preparing for the finals of the 2013 CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, which will be contested April 6-19 in Panama. It qualified for the tournament as an automatic North American entrant with Canada and the United States. Barbados, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago have already qualified from the Caribbean, while Central American qualifying starts on December 7 in Petapa, Guatemala.
