BAYAMON, Puerto Rico - World and European champion Spain scored both of its goals in the first half to post a 2-1 win over host Puerto Rico in an international friendly at the newly renovated Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel.
Spain controlled most of the match, but was denied on several occasions with acrobatic saves by New York Red Bulls keeper Bill Gaudette.
The visitors went ahead in the 42nd minute off a long-range shot from new Arsenal signing Santi Cazorla.
Three minutes later, Spain doubled its advantage when Jesus Navas delivered a cross from the right that Cesc Fabregas converted.
Cazorla continued to impress during the second half, dictating play hitting the crossbar with another attempt.
Puerto Rico, however, equalized in the 63rd minute. Marc Cintron received a long goal kick from Gaudette, held off defender Sergio Ramos and beat goalkeeper Pepe Reina with a near post effort from 17 meters.
"It was fantastic for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean region to have the world champion play in Bayamon," said CONCACAF President, Jeffrey Webb, who attended the game. "It shows that the Caribbean has the capacity to host teams like Spain.
"Puerto Rico's performance was inspiring and the entire country should be proud."
