INFORMATION: OTTAWA -- Canada submitted its roster for the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on Tuesday, as head coach Andrew Olivieri unveiled his 21-player selection.Japan will host the competition in five cities Aug. 19 - Sept. 8.
The squad is highlighted by the inclusion of Vancouver Whitecaps forward Jenna Richardson, who scored four goals in Canada's run to a second-place finish at the CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship this past March.She also netted twice in a 3-0 away win over Italy in a friendly last month.
"This tournament provides the ideal environment for the development of our players as they strive to one day make an impact with our national "A" team," said Olivieri, 31, who was once a goalkeeper for the Montreal Impact.
This year will mark Canada's fifth participation at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. The Maple Leafs captured the runner-up spot at the inaugural in 2002, which it hosted.
At the World Cup, Canada will face Argentina (Aug. 20) and Norway (Aug. 23) in Kobe, while it will travel to Saitama for a meeting against Korea DPR (Aug. 27).
