Davies wins second Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year Award

MIAMI, Florida – Canada and Bayern Munich DF Alphonso Davies is the winner of the 2022 Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year Award.

It is the second consecutive year in which Davies has captured the award and now gives the 22-year-old four individual Concacaf honors. Davies previously won the Golden Boot and the Bright Future Award at the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Davies becomes not only the first player to win the Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year Award in back-to-back years, but he is just the second player to twice garner Concacaf Men’s Player of the Year honors, joining Costa Rica GK Keylor Navas (2014, 2017) as the only two-time winners.

2022 was a year that will forever live in Canadian Men’s National Team lore, as Canada played in their first FIFA Men’s World Cup in 36 years at Qatar 2022.

Davies entered the Canada Soccer record books when he scored the first ever Canada goal at a Senior Men’s World Cup when he struck for a first half header in Canada’s 4-1 group stage defeat to Croatia.

Overall, he played in seven matches with Canada in 2022, including all three at Qatar 2022. Davies was also a force in 2022-23 Concacaf Nations League play, bagging a brace in a 4-0 win over Curacao in front of the fans in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The left back delivered another strong year at club level, too, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

During the calendar year, he appeared in 18 league matches, plus two domestic cup games in helping Bayern win the 2021-22 Bundesliga and the 2022 German Super Cup.

In European competition, he played in seven UEFA Champions League matches, the latter five coming in the group stage of the 2022-23 edition in which all five Bayern wins came via clean sheet, thanks in part to Davies’ defensive efforts.
