CHICAGO – The United States Soccer Federation announced Wednesday that women’s national team captain Christie Rampone underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right knee in New Jersey to clean up some loose bodies that were causing her irritation during the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season.

Rampone started and played 51 minutes in Tuesday’s 7-0 friendly win over Mexico at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Washington, DC.  As captain of Sky Blue FC, the 38-year-old defender played every minute of the season, helping her club to the NWSL playoffs.

With 284 international appearances, Rampone has the most caps of any active player in the world.
