CFCC: Sidekicks outlasts Habana on PKs for third

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala -- Sidekicks overcame Habana 2-1 on penalty kicks to capture third place in the inaugural CONCACAF Futsal Club Championship after playing to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at the Domo Polideportivo. 

Luis Portal gave Habana a 1-0 lead at 24:18, but Jaime Romero leveled for the Mexicans just slightly more than two minutes later.

In the penalty kick shootout, Adrian Gonzalez and Bogar Moreno struck for Sidekicks, while Portal converted for the Cubans.

Sidekicks goalkeeper Alonso Saavedra, who played in three games for Mexico at the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup, made saves on Isven Roman and Alejandro Marrero.

"The key was to wait on the kickers as long as possible,” Saavedra revealed to “The years that go by give you that experience to wait.

"It was a wonderful experience playing against the region’s biggest teams and, more than winning third place, we learned a lot.”
