COUVA, Trinidad and Tobago – A late goal from Jesus Gonzalez in the third minute of second-half stoppage time handed Panama a 1-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in an international friendly on Tuesday night at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad.

In his first ever appearance with the Panamanian National Team, Gonzalez took advantage of a deep cross from the left in front of the Trinidad and Tobago goal and finished from a few yards to give the Canaleros the late win.

Speaking with reporters following the match, the Tauro FC man was delighted to score on his debut.

“It’s very joyous to score the winning goal. We leave to go back home very satisfied,” said Gonzalez.

Using a group of players hailing from the Liga Profesional de Panama, Head Coach Hernan Dario Gomez was able to further evaluate any potential players who could help Panama at this summer’s 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, plus cast an eye toward the future.

“In these matches even before the result, it’s about forming a new generation and coming to conclusions. To form a new group of players for the National Team,” concluded Gomez.
