LONDON - CONCACAF under-23 champion Mexico will face South Korea, African champ Gabon and Switzerland in the first round of the men's soccer tournament at the London Olympics while Honduras will play European U-21 winner Spain, Japan and Morroco.

Tuesday's Olympic draw at Wembley Stadium also pitted the two-time defending women's Olympic champion United States against France, Colombia and North Korea, while CONCACAF runner-up Canada will go against reigning World Cup champion Japan, Sweden and South Africa.

The Olympics officially open on Friday, July 27, but the women's tournament will begin two days earlier with six games, including Japan vs. Canada, and the United States against France.

The men start a day later, with Mexico facing South Korea, and Honduras playing Morocco.

"It's always exciting to know who we will be playing," U.S. women's coach Pia Sundhage said on the the U.S. federation's website. "We will start with an excellent opponent that we faced in the World Cup and that is a good thing. Once again, we will be facing teams with different playing styles and that is a challenge our team enjoys."

For Mexico, making its ninth appearance at the Olympics, it will face a South Korea which has qualified for a seventh straight time, a Gabon making its debut and Switzerland making its first appearance at the Olympics since 1928.

Although Honduras is travelling to the Olympics for the third time in four Olympiads, it must face a Japan appearing for the fifth straight time, a Spanish side that won the 1992 gold and 2000 silver, and Morocco, which by reaching the Olympics for a seventh time is Africa's second-most successful country behind Egypt (11).

On the women's side, the Americans will be facing a very common opponent in North Korea, facing the Asian side for a fifth time in the opening round of a world championship. It will have a rematch with the French, whom the United States defeated in the semifinals of last year's World Cup. The Americans have only played Colombia once, winning 3-0 in last year's Women's World Cup.

Besides facing the reigning World Cup champion Japanese, Canada will play a Sweden team that has qualified for every Olympic women's tournament and has never finished worse than sixth, and debutante South Africa.
