MONA, Jamaica – As its preparations continue for the final round of Caribbean qualifying for the 2018 CONCACAF Under-17 Women’s Championship, Jamaica fell 3-0 to visiting Costa Rica in a friendly on Friday at the University of the West Indies/Jamaica Football Federation Captain Horace Burrell Technical Centre.

Maria Zuñiga (45’ pen), Carmen Marin (64’) and Priscila Chinchilla (87’) scored for the Central American side.

Despite the loss, however, Jamaica captain Monique Perrier said that much was gained from the experience.

“It is always disappointing to lose, but to hold out Costa Rica for a sustained period of time before the first goal was good on our part,” the midfielder emphasized.  “I believe that we can improve on our finishing.  However, that will fall into place in time.”

The sides will square off again on Sunday at St. George’s College in Kingston.

Perrier is looking forward to the rematch.

“It’s an opportunity for us to turn around quickly and get a better result,” she finished.

Jamaica is slated to resume Caribbean U-17 qualifying play against Bermuda on October 18 and then face Trinidad & Tobago two days later.  Both matches will be played at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
