VANCOUVER, Canada - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced Thursday that it acquired Cameroon international Tony Tchani from Columbus Crew SC, financial considerations and a possible first-round selection in the MLS SuperDraft in exchange for winger/forward Kekuta Manneh.

"We have acquired an experienced, athletic, box-to-box player in Tony, who will help solidify our midfield," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson.  "Tony is someone I enjoyed working with during my time in New York and I'm excited to have him join our group.”

The 22-year-old Manneh joined Whitecaps FC as the fourth overall selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.  He went on to make 101 MLS regular season appearances with the club, scoring 22 goals and adding 12 assists.

Additionally, Manneh played in three MLS Cup playoff matches, scored one goal in two CONCACAF Champions League appearances, and added one goal in 11 Canadian Championship games.  His SCCL goal came in a 1-1 draw with the host New York Red Bulls in this season’s quarterfinals on February 22, 2017.

"We are thankful to Kekuta for his contributions to this club over his four plus years,” Robinson remarked.  “He is a good kid and a talented player who had some special moments in Vancouver, and we wish him all the best."

Tchani, a 27-year-old central midfielder, brings seven years of MLS experience to the club.  Including stints with the New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC, he has appeared in 172 regular-season games and scored 10 goals.
